The premium pick-up market is slowly growing, and to place its claim at the top of the game, Mercedes-Benz Vans has introduced the X-Class Concept.
Coming in two styles – stylish explorer and powerful adventurer – the adaptable X-Class suits both the inner-city lifestyle of the stylish SUV and the off-roading capabilities of rugged 4x4s.
After redefining the SUV segment 20 years ago with the release of the M-Class, this unveiling of the new pick-up could do just the same for Mercedes-Benz.
The bold-looking X-Class has a high-quality finish inside, taking recognisable design elements from other Mercedes models, such as the ergonomic seats and the Mercedes me connect infotainment system.
For the top of the range models, they will be fitted with a V6 diesel with the permanent all-wheel drive 4Matic system. This helps for dynamic performance off-road, and if needed the rear differential and inter-axle differential can be locked for better control on trickier surfaces.
Also fitted with top-of-the-line driver assistance systems aided by cameras, radar and ultrasound sensors, it has a maximum towing weight of over three tonnes and a payload weight just over one tonne, thanks to the ladder-type frame.
Due for release in Europe, Latin America, South Africa and Australia, this ground-breaking model will progress from its current concept design into a production model towards the end of 2017.
