Say hello to the ID. CROSS Concept - Volkswagen’s latest compact SUV study, revealed at the IAA MOBILITY show. At 4,161mm long and 1,839mm wide, it sits close in size to the current T-Cross, but with a longer 2,601mm wheelbase and a design that sets it apart.
The exterior is defined by a clean, modern look, complete with specially developed 21-inch ‘Balboa’ alloy wheels. In partnership with Goodyear, bespoke 235/40 R21 tyres were designed to extend the wheel design into the sidewall, making the concept instantly recognisable.
Inside, the ID. CROSS Concept offers big space in compact dimensions. With seating for five, a generous 450-litre boot and an additional 25 litres under the bonnet, it’s practical as well as stylish. The wide stance and open interior layout create an airy feel, perfect for both city driving and longer journeys.
Step inside and you’ll find a lounge-style ambience. High-quality fabrics in Vanilla Chai tones, configurable light, sound and climate settings (‘Atmospheres’), and even plant motifs on the displays - plus real plants in the floating centre console, all combine to create a calming environment. The specially designed seats can also fold flat to form a reclining area, reminiscent of the classic VW Bus.
Up front, everything is designed around the driver. A reimagined cockpit layout places an 11-inch digital instrument cluster alongside a 13-inch infotainment touchscreen. Intuitive menus, natural voice control, and direct-function buttons make operation simple, while the multifunction steering wheel has been completely redesigned for clarity and ease of use.
Underneath, the ID. CROSS Concept is powered by Volkswagen’s latest MEB+ platform. A 155kW (211PS) electric motor drives the front wheels, supported by a flat, high-voltage battery integrated into the floor. This setup provides a range of up to 420km (WLTP). Practicality hasn’t been forgotten either, with a towing capacity of up to 1,200kg (braked) and a drawbar load of 75kg - perfect for carrying two e-bikes or small trailers.
The ID. CROSS Concept isn’t just about style - it showcases the next step in Volkswagen’s electric evolution. With upgraded software, improved efficiency, and advanced assistance systems, MEB+ is paving the way for future models like the production-ready ID. CROSS and ID. Polo.
