This year marks the 40th anniversary of the launch of the Porsche 924 GTP, and to celebrate the occasion Porsche AG put a challenge forward to all Porsche Classic Partner Centres across the UK to restore the classic car back to its former glory days.
This particular car was once driven by Andy Rouse and Tony Dron, and is the only Porsche factory-owned race car ever to compete under the British flag.
The team at our Porsche Centre Leeds
were absolutely delighted to be given the chance to restore the electrics and plumbing of the legendary Porsche 924 GTP, car number 002.
John Fisher, Service Manager at Porsche Centre Leeds, commented:
"It’s an absolute pleasure to be part of this project and it has created such a buzz amongst customers and within the Centre. The story has gone viral on social media with it reaching over 20,000 followers globally from New Zealand to Brazil. We look forward to keeping our followers up to date and we cannot wait for the completed venture.”
Andrew Wexham, Classic Specialist at Porsche Centre Leeds, said:
“It’s a fantastic opportunity. With my father being a racing driver, I have grown up within the racing circle, spending weekends travelling the length and breadth of the country visiting various circuits. My father is very proud to say that I am working on the Le Mans number 002 GTP, he remembers watching the classic Porsche models at Le Mans and shared his memories with me when I was little and I hope to do the same with my little boy.”
The 924 GTP has now been fully restored, and was recently on display at the classic Le Mans event earlier this month.
