Ferrari’s twin-turbo 3.9-litre V8 has won four honours at the International Engine Awards, including the top prize ‘Engine of the Year’.
The V8 unit is fitted to the 488 GTB, 488 Spider and California T
, and won in the Performance Engine, New Engine and the 3 to 4-litre categories as well as the overall prize.
Decided by 63 jurors, the judges decided that the engine was worthy thanks to 'zero turbo lag and a progressive delivery of torque', while commenting that it 'provides a signature Ferrari soundtrack'.
The event held at the Engine Expo in Stuttgart saw Ferrari’s 6.3-litre V12 also win an award for the ‘Above 4-litre’ category in a successful event for the Maranello-based manufacturer. This engine is fitted to the F12 Berlinetta and F12tdf.
In the 488 GTB, the V8 reaches 62mph in impressive 3 seconds flat and reaches a top speed of 205mph, whilst in the 488 Spider it can go in excess of 203mph with the 0-62 time exactly the same as the hard top. As for the California T this reaches a top speed of 196mph and gets up to speed in 3.6 seconds.
