Aston Martin has revealed its new flagship model - the DBS Superleggera - which is set to become one of the brand’s most powerful cars ever.
The new model revives two classic Aston Martin nameplates - DBS and Superleggera. The DBS was first used in 1967, while Superleggera harks back to iconic lightweight versions of the DB4, DB5 and DB6 built by Italian coachbuilders Touring.
Aston Martin describes the new model as a ‘Super GT’, which is an indication of the cars it’s looking to rival – including Ferrari’s current range-topper, the 812 Superfast.
The DBS Superleggera is noticeably similar in design to the DB11, and will be a close rendition of the similarities that the firm’s past DB9 shared with the Vanquish.
Other than the vast number of changes underneath the surface, a deep honeycomb grille gives the car a more menacing look than the DB11, while carbon fibre and aluminium panels make up the majority of its structure. Two different alloy designs also feature, as well as a sharper and more muscular rear end, with new Aston Martin letter branding at the rear, too.
The manufacturer has developed its renowned 5.2-litre twin-turbo V12 to produce 716bhp and 900Nm which will make it the firm’s second most powerful production car to date – the 760bhp One-77 hypercar just beating it. The V12 is paired to a ZF eight-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive.
Its performance figures put Aston Martin into a territory it has not been in for several years, with the DBS Superleggera being able to accelerate from 0-60mph time of 3.2 seconds and keep going to a top speed of 211mph.
Aside from performance, standard equipment includes a 360-degree camera, park assist as well as Bluetooth and keyless entry. A leather and Alcantara interior is also offered as standard.
Dr Andy Palmer, president and CEO of Aston Martin, said: “DBS Superleggera not only marks the return of a great Aston Martin name, but signals our return to the very pinnacle of the Super GT sector.
“Immaculately styled, obsessively engineered and outrageously potent, the new DBS Superleggera is every inch the Aston Martin flagship.”
Prices for the DBS Superleggera start from £225,000, with first deliveries expected in the third quarter of this year.
