In a glittering evening for the automotive industry, the Kia e-Niro walked away with the highly coveted top prize at this year’s WhatCar? Awards.
With zero emissions and an all-electric drivetrain, the e-Niro becomes the first EV to win the prestigious ‘Car of the Year’ award, marking a watershed moment in the journey of the electric vehicle.
The e-Niro merges crossover-inspired design with class-leading range and enjoyable performance.
The WhatCar? judging panel remarked, “Uncompromised electric car ownership has, so far, been the privilege of those able to afford a Tesla, which is why the e-Niro is such a game-changer. We think Kia's success in making a long-range electric car that's within the reach of many deserves the most credit."
President and CEO of Kia Motors (UK) Ltd, Paul Philpott, commented, “It’s a great honour to win the top prize at this year’s WhatCar? Awards, which are so highly regarded in the industry and by customers. The award is a testament to how far the brand has grown since launching in the UK, and we are looking forward to continuing this success throughout 2019 and beyond."
Kia took a total of five awards at the WhatCar? Awards ceremony this year, with recognition coming for the Picanto and Ceed, among others.
A high-specification, feature-rich ‘First Edition’ e-Niro will be available at Kia dealerships from April 1.
