For six generations and 44 years, the BMW 5 Series has been the gold standard in mid-size saloons by leading the way in technology and comfort.
Now the seventh generation 5 Series has been unveiled and it will be the flagship for BMW’s next step in terms of technology, style and comfort.
With the further advancement and application of BMW EfficientLightweight technologies, this new model is 100kg lighter than its predecessor and with a lower centre of gravity, newly-designed chassis and stiffer lightweight bodywork.
Fitted with some of the latest in BMW’s technologies, such as gesture control for the 10.25-inch media system, head-up display and intelligent voice assistant that pairs with the iDrive system, you will be safe in the knowledge that this model is one of the most advanced on the road.
This new 5 Series is also helping introduce autonomous technologies to the mainstream, such as active cruise control and steering and lane control assistant, which when combined with speed limit assist can help the driver with braking, accelerating, distance-keeping and lane positioning at speeds up to 130mph (where this speed is permitted). Also the Auto Start Stop function can adapt to traffic conditions and the route the driver has chosen for greater comfort.
To join the new model will be a new range of lightweight, efficient engines with both the petrol and diesel range getting an update. The new 530i and 540i petrol models and 520d and 530d diesel versions can be fitted with BMW xDrive all-wheel drive.
Coming in March 2017, a plug-in hybrid version will join the 5 Series range for the first time and as is standard with every model, the M5 will return in the M550i xDrive, which is fitted with a 462bhp V8 engine.
