The updated Astra promises to set the standard for efficiency and low CO2 emissions, with a revised range of petrol and diesel engines.
Vauxhall have achieved a new standard for efficiency thanks to time spent in the wind tunnel. The new Astra is now the most aerodynamic five-door hatchback on sale.
Efficiency doesn’t come at the cost of the driving experience, however, and the new Astra is powered by new turbocharged petrol and diesel engine, all of which provide lively performance.
All petrol engines in the line-up are compact three-cylinder units, available in 1.2-litre and 1.4-litre versions.
A smooth six-speed manual gearbox combines with the 1.2-litre petrol, while a seven-speed CVT automatic transmission is exclusively available with the 1.4-litre petrol model.
Go for a diesel model, and you can expect impressive torque from the three-cylinder, 1.5-litre unit that sits under the bonnet. It’s available with a six-speed manual, or in the case of the more powerful model, a nine-speed automatic.
There are updates on the inside of the Astra too, with class-leading comfort which includes smartphone compatibility and an optional high end sound system from Bose.
For enhanced convenience on winter days, the new Astra also includes a heated windscreen on selected models.
