German manufacturer BMW
has revealed its latest roadster – the Concept Z4.
Officially unveiled at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, the Concept Z4 is a two-seater based on the model of the same name but with a modernised design.
Described as ‘freedom on four wheels’, this new design is very aggressive, although expect it to be toned down for the production model.
The front end has sharp lines that match many recent BMW concepts and they continue over the wheel arches and along the side of the body.
The short overhangs and dynamic exterior mean that if the production car is anything like this, it will be a tantalising prospect.
For the Z4’s interior, BMW has continued the angular nature of the bodywork, with an interesting dual-tone dash design, an unconventionally modelled steering wheel and dual-screen dash displays.
Senior vice-president of BMW Group Design Adrian van Hooydonk said: “The BMW Concept Z4 in an all-out driving machine. Stripping the car back to the bare essentials allows the driver to experience all the ingredients of motoring pleasure with supreme directness. This is total freedom on four wheels.
“The BMW Concept Z4 expresses the new BMW design language from all perspectives and in all details. From the dynamic-looking front to the striking flanks to the clean-cut tail end: a few lines and the subtle interplay between surfaces are enough to generate a sense of power and emotion.”
