It was another successful year for Audi in the ‘What Car? Car of the Year awards
’ which saw them take home four awards in total for; best family car with the A3 Sportback
and the Q7
guaranteed they took home winner of best luxury SUV.
For the second year running they won best executive car with the A4 Sport,
which was crowned the overall What car? Car of the Year in 2016. So, although this was not as good a result, the A4 still sits ahead of other executive contenders in the field. The best result may have been for the winner of the best coupe, which has been in the top spot now for three consecutive years.
The winners in more detail:
Family car winner – Audi A3 Sportback 1.4 TFSI 150 Sport
Going up against the SEAT Leon and the Vauxhall Astra, the Audi A3 Sportback was crowned the overall best family car for 2017.
It was the best-selling premium hatchback in 2016 and won overall What Car? Car of the Year back in 2013, proving that the A3 continues to impress year-on-year.
More recently the A3 has had a minor facelift, including more standard kit and the option to have Audi’s Virtual Cockpit added. The Sport model includes SAT NAV, Climate Control and more supportive seating in addition to the SE trim which justifies the higher price point.
Luxury SUV winner – Audi Q7 3.0 TDI 272 Quattro SE
Winner of the best overall Luxury SUV, the Q7 was up against the Range Rover Vogue and Porsche’s Macan as the better all-rounder.
Not only does the Q7 look the part on the outside the luxury look continues on the inside and it has more than enough room for up to 7 passengers.
Packed full with standard kit, a plush interior cabin area along with a smooth and comfortable ride, the only downside noted for the Q7 was the high price tag, with a list price of £51,045.
Executive car winner – Audi A4 3.0 TDI 218 Sport
The overall executive car winner for 2017 was the Audi A4, and despite being last year’s winner of the What Car? Car of the Year 2016, Audi should still be proud of the achievement.
The A4 still managed to beat other top contenders such as the BMW 3 Series, Mercedes-Benz C-Class and the Jaguar XE for the top spot.
Admired for its smooth and quiet ride, the Audi A4 boasts an impressive interior cabin and spec, plus it doesn’t have a hefty price tag either!
For a third year running, the Audi TT steals the show for best overall coupe, and it’s easy to see why. Up against its big brother, the Audi A5 Sport and the Mercedes-benz S-Class the TT outshines them both with its fun yet comfortable drive, stylish exterior and reasonably low price tag.
The compliments don’t stop there either - it was highlighted that the interior has no rival match for this price tag, with one of the best-built cabins of its ilk, including rich materials and a minimalist look and feel.
In addition to this, the newly introduced 1.8 litre engine - which at £3,000 cheaper than the 2.0 litre model - delivers a smoother and quieter drive and the bonus of better fuel economy.
