Simplicity is the design idea behind the Peugeot 308, and that inspiration has served to produce an entirely new vehicle design. The exterior exudes a sparse elegance, whilst the interior holds new and intuitive technology to improve the driving experience still further.
The original audacious design of the "Project T7" concept car has resulted in a bold yet refined production model, with large wheel arches and lowered ground clearance emphasising the dynamic design. The low bonnet and sleek silhouette leave no doubt as to the vehicle's exciting potential. The 308 also has a dramatic new light signature, utilising full LED headlights which highlight the chrome-lined radiator grille they surround. The rear of the vehicle also makes use of this technology, as does the blind spot monitor system. Peugeot's modern interior architecture has come together to form the Peugeot i-Cockpit, combining a sophisticated Gallic design with all of the latest advancements in vehicle technology. The raised centre console is the centrepiece of the suite, featuring a 9.7" colour touchscreen, a sports steering wheel, and a heads-up instrument cluster.
The colours are stark black gloss and satin chrome, extending the sensation of luxury throughout the cabin. Dual-zone air conditioning is available, as is satellite navigation and Bluetooth® hands-free functionality. Two petrol and two diesel engines are available with the Peugeot 308, ranging from the 1.2 litre Puretech to the 2.0 litre BlueHDi, delivering from 81 to 203bhp. The combined fuel consumption of the frugal 1.6 litre 92hp diesel is 74.3mpg, and the CO2 emissions are 99g/km. The superior power of the 1.6 litre 205hp THP petrol motor, on the other hand, allows the 308 to reach 62mph from a standing start in a mere 7.5 seconds.
Peugeot's new ESP control system ensures that the braking and traction is always working with the driver, even during adverse road and weather conditions. Six airbags are included: two front airbags, two side airbags and two curtain airbags. Peugeot Connect SOS technology is also used, providing quick emergency contacts if you are caught in or witness an emergency situation.
