Designed to combine five-door practicality with coupé styling, the CLA-Class from Mercedes-Benz represents a revolution in vehicle production. Engineered for admiration, the CLA-Class boasts one of the lowest drag coefficients of any car in the world (0.23). Innovations in manufacturing enable low carbon emissions, and the streamlined nature of the car helps to reduce fuel consumption.
Athletic lines catch the eye, marking the CLA-Class something special from the exterior alone. The smooth shape of the vehicle contributes towards its sporty and powerful profile. The CLA-Class also sets new standards in pioneering air resistance technologies. With a low vehicle height, the car keeps the driver close to the road, able to feel every sensation of the superb ride the vehicle is capable of.
Mercedes-Benz has given the cabin of the CLA-Class the same dynamic qualities. The air vents of the dashboard, for example, are designed to be reminiscent of jet turbines, whilst a twin-tube instrument cluster that takes inspiration from racing cars.
Multimedia and infotainment functions are controlled through the large tablet-style display, and sports seats are included as standard. Also included is a Seat Comfort Package, which allows for height adjusters and seat cushion angle adjustment. There are also a number of customisation options for the interior, allowing for different colours and materials for the dashboard and upholstery.
Two diesel engines and three petrol engines are available in the CLA-Class range. The most economical powertrain, a 2.1 litre turbodiesel CLA 220 CDI engine, achieves combined fuel economy of 62.8mpg, with carbon output a mere 117g/km. At the same time, this powertrain’s ample reserves of torque enables it to reach 62mph from a standing start in just 8.2 seconds. The CLA 180 petrol unit, meanwhile, enables the CLA-Class to accelerate to 62mph in 9.3 seconds – and still manages modest fuel consumption and carbon output figures of 50.4mpg and 130g/km.
Safety is top priority with the CLA-Class, from the hard bodyshell of the exterior to the number of integrated safety systems within. Nine airbags are installed and positioned throughout the cabin, working alongside the safety systems to ensure maximum protection at all times. Electronic assistants include ESP Cornering Dynamics Assist, Collision Prevention Assist, and Adaptive Brake Assist.
