The Lotus Exige can trace its roots back to motorsport, and was developed through vehicles designed for competition on the track. Combining the extreme and the sublime, the Exige is a road vehicle with dramatic styling and a highly-tuned engine, which delivers a superior handling experience and extraordinary performance. The lightweight chassis ensures that the drive is streamlined yet stable, and the supercharged engine has found the perfect balance between weight and power.
Lotus has focused on Advanced Aerodynamics for the Exige. The newly-developed fluid body design creates a striking impression, and is optimised for maximum airflow. The distinctive headlights incorporate hi-tech LED daylight running lights, and the rear brake clusters are uniquely recognisable through their use of the same technology. The exhaust system is free-flowing, and makes use of a bypass valve to reduce back pressure in the system, as well as to increase the power output and heighten the audible note of the exhaust.
The interior of the Exige is built around the needs of the committed driver, with all controls and comforts ergonomically designed to provide maximum ease of use. The fixed-back sports seats have been expertly sculpted, whilst the cabin detailing is comprised of machined aluminium elements alongside hand-trimmed and twin-stitched leather seats, giving as striking an impression to the inside as that of the outside. A CD/MP3 player with four speakers provides entertainment, and drivers have the option to include air conditioning, heated seats, USB connectivity and cruise control if desired.
The Exige is powered by a 3.5-litre DOHC V6 VVT-i 24-valve engine, which provides 345hp and 400Nm of torque. It can reach 0-60mph in 3.8 seconds, and can reach top speeds of up to 170mph (although this is reduced to 145mph in the case of the Exige Roadster). Driver and passenger airbags ensure safety, and the Lotus Dynamic Performance Management system (DPM) grants extra stability if it detects that the driver may be close to losing control.
