The Kia Optima has been given special attention from Kia's Chief Designer, Peter Schreyer. The result is a distinctive coupé-like range with four models available: the Optima 1, the Optima 2 Luxe and 2 Tech, and the Kia Optima 3 at the top of the range. The look of the vehicle has been developed to express elegance and athletic confidence, and the manufacturer’s bold styling ensures that the Optima’s distinctive look could never be mistaken for another brand of vehicle.
The Optima’s long bonnet creates a sleek look, with chrome accents providing a strong sense of visual unity, and the proportions have been lowered and enhanced with a sense of simplicity. The Optima has been designed to be wider and longer than previous Kia vehicles, giving the car a commanding presence on the road. Kia's signature 'tiger nose' chrome front grille is present, and stylish LED daytime running lights provide significant increases to visibility.
The interior of the Optima contains a high level of technology and comfort features. Kia has designed the Optima with the driver in mind, creating a driver-focused cabin boasting abundant high-tech for a truly modern experience for those within. The centre console has been ergonomically designed to be within easy reach of the driver's seat, allowing for control of the audio, navigation and air conditioning systems. Drive information is broadcast through the 3.5" colour TFT LCD central screen, and the menu is open to full customisation. A RDS radio/CD audio with MP3 disc compatibility is included, as are USB and AUX ports for greater levels of audio choice.
The Optima is powered by a 1.7-litre 134bhp engine, available in six-speed automatic and manual transmission variations. It can reach top speeds of 125mph, and 0-60mph in 9.9 seconds. The combined fuel consumption is 57.6mpg, and the CO2 emissions are 128g/km.
Safety systems include the Parallel Park Assist System, the Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), and Electronic Stability Control (ESC) which comes fitted as standard on all models. These allow for greater stability and handling during all driving situations, keeping the driver in control at all times. The advanced six airbag system has side airbags for driver and front passenger plus curtain airbags along the side of the vehicle, and impact-sensing door locks activate automatically when necessary during travel to protect the occupants.
