1.     There are over 36,000 stitches on the leather interiors of an Audi A8

2.     Porsche helped to develop the RS2

Audi’s first high-performanceestate. With an engine tuned by Porsche and Quattro all-wheel drive, the RS2was able to do 0-30mph faster than a McLaren F1!

4.     The Audi R18 e-tron Quattro broke the 44-year-old fastest lap record at Le Mans in 2015

It was driven by Portugal’s Filipe Albuquerque. He beat the old time by nearly 1 second.

5.     Audi have created diesel from air and water

Their so-called ‘fuel of the future’ was produced by isolating the hydrogen from water steam, then pumping this into a high-pressure reactor with CO2 to create ‘blue crude oil’, which can then be refined into diesel. The German minister of education is already driving a car powered by this ground-breaking fuel.

6.     The Audi R8 gave the Ironman stunt directors aheadache

In the film Ironman, in which the Audi R8 stars, the plan was to crash the car into bad guy Iron Monger’s leg, and flip it over. The R8 space frame has such a low centre of gravity,however, that the stunt directors couldn’t make it flip, so they had to change the scene. Watch some behind the scenes footage here.

7.     Audi pioneered dual-clutch transmission

It first appeared in their rally cars in the early 1980s.

8.     Audi were sued by the International Olympic Committee for their logo

The IOC took Audi to court in 1995 for trademark infringement. Audi won.
