Motability Explained

And you’re in safe hands with us, as we have fully trained and experienced Motability specialists at each of our partner dealerships, who will always be on hand to take you through your Motability options, no matter how long it takes.

What is Motability?

Available at JCT600, the Motability Scheme is a unique, hassle-free Scheme that allows you to use your Mobility allowance (see Eligibility below) for a car.

A JCT600 Motability Specialist will set up your car agreement, which will typically last for 3 years and payments for the car will simply be deducted from your Mobility allowance every 4 weeks.

Then, at the end of your agreement, you can simply hand the car back to us or choose to stay and select a new car of your choice. It’s completely up to you, and there is absolutely no pressure.

You can also use the Motability Scheme for Scooters and Powered Wheelchairs; however, JCT600 only provides car services. Please see the Motability website for more information.

Am I Eligible for the Motability Scheme?

To qualify for the Motability Scheme at JCT600 you must be permanently receiving one of the following allowances (or to have at least 12 months award length remaining):

  • Higher Rate Mobility Component of the Disability Allowance (HRMC of DLA)
  • Enhanced Rate of Mobility Component of Personal Independence Payment (ERMC of PIP)
  • War Pensioner’s Mobility Supplement (WPMS)
  • Armed Forces Independence Payment (AFIP)You’re also able to use the Scheme if you are a parent or guardian of a child aged 3 years or above, who receives any of these allowances.

Unfortunately, no other allowances are eligible for Motability, including the Attendance Allowance.

Can I part exchange my car with JCT600?

Yes.

Before you start on the Motability Scheme, we’re more than happy to take your existing vehicle in a part-exchange agreement, regardless of the age or condition the car is in.

Your Motability Specialist will be able to arrange this for you; just let them know when you first make an inquiry.

What will be included in the payments?

Everything is covered in one payment, every 4 weeks, so you don’t have to worry about setting anything else up for your car.

Your payments will include the following, as standard:

  • Cost of the car
  • Insurance (which includes up to two named drivers who live within 5 miles of you)
  • Servicing and maintenance
  • RAC Breakdown cover
  • Annual car tax
  • Replacement tyres
  • Windscreen replacement
  • 60,000 mileage allowance over the 3 year period
  • Many adaptations at no extra cost

What if my car or adaptations are more than my Mobility allowance?

If the car or adaptations you have chosen are more than your Mobility allowance, you will be required to pay a one-off ‘Advance payment’ at the beginning of the agreement. This is so the payments are covered by your Mobility allowance for the remainder of the agreement.

Similarly, if this is less than your Mobility allowance, once the payment has been made every 4 weeks, anything extra will be left in your account to spend as you wish.

What happens at the end of my agreement?

Towards the end of your agreement, your Motability specialist will contact you to discuss your options.

Available options:

  • Return the car and set up a new agreement for a further 3 years
  • Simply return the car

For your ease, we will provide a wash and vac service on all cars returned to us at no extra cost, so please do not worry about cleaning the car. You are also eligible for a £250 bonus payment if the car is returned to us with no significant damage.*

Your Motability specialist will be more than happy to go through and explain the options to you in more detail before any decision is made.

*Subject to full evaluation of the car by your Motability Specialist.

What adaptations are available?

A whole range of adaptations are available for you, from electronic accelerators to steering aids, car boot hoists and swivel seats; all aimed to make your car journey a much more comfortable experience. Your Motability Specialist will go through the full range of available adaptations.

If you do not like the adaptation once this has been fitted, it’s no problem at all. Simply give your Motability Specialist a call and they will arrange for this to be removed at a suitable time for you. They will also arrange for the cost to be removed from your 4 weekly payments too.

Now that I understand what Motability is, what are my next steps?

Step 1
Decide which brand you are interested in that is available on Motability at JCT600.

Select the brand logo for more information, their current special offers and contact details.

Step 2
Contact the brands Motability Specialist in advance (details are displayed on the brand page for you) to arrange an appointment and any test drives you would like to take.

Please note: Our Audi Centres have Motability trained Specialists at each of their dealerships.

Step 3
Once you have decided which car and any adaptations is the perfect fit for you, your Motability specialist will place an order, set up the payments for you and arrange a suitable delivery date for your new car.
