JCT600 directors present £10,000 to the Bradford Burns Unit

JCT600 directors present £10,000 to the Bradford Burns Unit

  • JCT600 has presented a cheque for just over £10,000 as its contribution to Bradford City FC’s £100,000 Burns Unit Appeal. Launched last August in the year that marks the 25th anniversary of the Bradford City fire, the appeal aimed to safeguard the future of the Burns Unit and has already succeeded in beating its £100,000 target.

Fifteen directors from the Bradford-based group of car dealerships led by chief executive John Tordoff made the 1,344m ascent of Britain’s highest mountain, Ben Nevis, earlier this year to raise funds to help save the city’s burns research unit.

John Tordoff, his brother Ian and father Jack were all at Valley Parade football stadium on 11 May 1985 when the fire broke out, killing 56 spectators and injuring more than 190 people. Many of the injured were treated by plastic surgeons called in by Professor David Sharpe who founded the Burns Unit, now based at Bradford University’s Centre for Skin Science.

“This is a tragedy which remains close to the hearts of everyone in Bradford, even 25 years later,” explained John Tordoff, chief executive of JCT600. “It’s fantastic to see the local community pull together once again to save this world-renowned facility and we’re delighted that our friends, customers and suppliers have helped us to make a significant contribution to the appeal.”
