More than 400 women across Yorkshire have been brushing up on their car maintenance skills in a series of events hosted by independent car retailer JCT600 in aid of local charities.
The ‘Women at the Wheel’ evenings took place at JCT600 Volkswagen Hull, York, Bradford and Wakefield and succeeded in raising more than £1800 for charities including St Leonards Hospice, Macmillan Cancer Support and Bradford Cancer Support.
With full service facilities at each of the dealerships, the events saw demonstrations by JCT600 technicians, giving essential advice on car maintenance and tips on how to keep a vehicle safe and reliable. Advice included basic under bonnet checks such as oil, coolant and brake fluid and guidance on how to change a wheel.
Local police officers were also on hand to speak about driving safety issues, including the risks and effects associated with speeding and the dangers of using mobile phones to call and text whilst driving.
Upon arrival guests were treated to a buck’s fizz and canapé reception and local businesses transformed the showrooms with stalls including designer handbags, hair and beauty treats and vintage handmade gifts.
Charlotte Murray of JCT600, said: “The evenings created a fantastic buzz at each of the dealerships involved and it was great to see so many of our customers enjoying the events. We are delighted that so much money was raised for charity in the process.
“Knowledge of car maintenance and safety is essential for any car driver, but it is so often overlooked. We wanted to organise an evening that was fun as well as informative. We’ve had some great feedback and we hope to make ‘Women at the Wheel’ a regular event.”
