Sales of both new and used cars remain buoyant with orders for new cars up 19 per cent year on year combined with strong sales of second hand cars in recent weeks, according to Yorkshire car retailer JCT600.
“Sales of new cars have been healthy throughout 2010 and it looks like we will be ending the year on a high with a good number of orders going forward despite the imminent rise in VAT,” commented Andrew Coulthurst, sales director of JCT600. “After a slight dip in used car sales during the summer, we have seen a recovery in the last quarter with used cars tracking a 10 per cent increase year on year, and in recent weeks we’ve outsold many of the traditionally stronger weeks earlier in the year.
“Quality used cars always outstrip demand in the New Year and, with this in mind, all of our dealerships have been stocking up with the best selection before Christmas. For example, our newest car dealership, the Price Right car supermarket at Rawdon which has only been open for just over a month is already on track to be our busiest used car dealership in 2011. Our ‘Take it Now’ service at Price Right which enables customers to order their used car in the morning and drive it away in the afternoon of the same day, is proving very popular, particularly as it means customers can beat the January VAT increase.”
Andy continues: “From our 48 dealerships, we currently have almost 30,000 new and used car orders for 2010 - if all of those cars were lined up bumper to bumper they would stretch 76 miles – the equivalent of a traffic jam from our dealerships in Sticker Lane in Bradford to our dealerships in Hull!”
JCT600 has been running new car promotions throughout the year, such as 0% finance, VAT free and deposit contribution, all of which have been a major factor in driving sales. The company will once again be holding its annual ’12 Days of Christmas’ event from 24th December until 4th January with most used cars reduced in price and generous part exchange prices.
